Poor Mans Power Steering 10 YEAR UPDATE

The old L130 has likely seen its last mowing season due to the trans getting weak, I thought it would be a good time to see how the needle bearings have held up after 10 years of use.

I found a steel thread insert kit with some beefy inserts that should permanently solve the problem, In the end i wound up doing the whole block. Sort of. I made the mistake of using a cork gasket, as long as I use dino oil it seals just fine, synthetic oil creeps right through the cork though. Not really a big deal since I don't drive it daily anymore. It just sits in the garage waiting to be worked on lol.

    Besides making the mower harder to steer and damaging the lawn, I suspect that having misalignment puts a lot of strain on every part of the steering system, leading to premature failure of parts.

    I had a miss at idle that turned into a bucking at low RPM and eventually stalling at idle. I replaced so many parts like TPS, IAC, MAP, etc… turned out it was these .80 cent capacitors. After soldering in new capacitors of the same spec the idle doesn’t miss and the low RPM bucking went away. Very thankful to have come across this. Thanks for the video @stevestolz.

    Last night my wipers jumped when I started the engine leaving at least one out of the parked position. The wipers were not turned on when they jumped nor were they on when the engine was turned off. For some reason they wouldn’t park. I figured I’d have to clean and lubricate the mechanism like I’ve had to do in the past but after messing with them a bit they finally parked. It rained the next day and they worked fine. Weird.

    Excellent Video! Thank you for going through the high effort to make this video for others. Very Helpful! I have a 2016 KIA Sedona with the 3.3 version of this engine and the Bank 1 Rear Head Gasket is leaking at cylinder 1-2 into the coolant system with only 75k miles. KIA wants $10k for a whole new engine. They don't want to even attempt a repair. They know about the Head bolts pulling on some of these engines, so their solution is a new long block. • @SteveStoltz
      @SteveStoltz 4 месяца назад

      I don't think so, don't quote me but I think there is some material that you would remove from the intake ports that is needed for the injector spray, that isn't required for a carbureted setup. I don't think the removal is totally necessary, but it may improve the flow.

    Pain in the butt. Most excruciating change of a Valve cover I'll ever do cause the manifold is on top of the valve cover instead of beside it, and wiring/lines everywhere, just like a V6 Mitsubishi/Kia with its 3 rear spark plugs. Have to take the whole manifold off just to change the 3 spark plugs, while on Ford, they're just under the valve cover on drivers side. 😭 Us engine mechanics sometimes hate the engineers of these engines bc of top-mounted manifolds. Thank you for showing me how to change my valve cover gasket made it a little much easier

      @@SteveStoltz I tip my hat to you sir… Only after I left my comment did I realize that the post was six years old, or around there? But you get a reply same day on an older video,; that’s legendary! I am definitely not even close to that skill level of being able to solder the ECM, call I saw this as I am searching for solutions to my issue… 95 coachman Catalina class A, ford 460 EFI, it idles GREAT, hit the Excelerator while in park, no problem. Drop it into gear and put the engine under load, begins to sputter/backfire and fall right on its face… I would assume if my issue lies within the ECM, it would be a “all or nothing“ type of situation rather than chance under load. If you’d like to leave I guess as to my issue, I will read it! Lol But nonetheless I enjoyed your video, it’s always great to see someone stick it to the man and fix some thing rather than spend thousands on replacing it. Thank you again and take care! -LJ

      @@LJWalter78 It never hurts to check and confirm that the caps are in fact still good, but something I remember from back in the day when I had a truck with the e40d is that there was an issue that could arise when putting the truck in gear the trans would pull so much current that it would almost cause the truck to stall. I don't remember the details but if you have that trans it may be something to investigate further.

These 3.3 L engines are made from aluminum block which is why these things happen. People think it’s just a bad head gasket cause of oil intake issues but the primary problem is the head bolts stripping and leading to head gasket failure I want to be a self made mechanic for my family lol I have a wife and six kids so I have no other choice but to step up to the plate and hit that home run lol
